Located on the East End of Massachusetts Avenue, Black market opened in 2011 with a small menu and a few beer and wine offerings. In the years since, it has evolved into one of Indianapolis' most beloved independent restaurants with craft cocktails, an award-winning wine list, and the best regional Mexican cuisine you'll find in Indiana.

"Everything we serve is an extension of who we are as diners, wine lovers, and cocktail geeks," says owner Ed Rudisell. "We're never afraid to tell the story of who we are. The synergy of the staff's experience is what makes this restaurant so special to me."

The patio at Black Market is a highlight of the restaurant during the warmer months, offering a lush garden setting amidst an otherwise urban environment. The tables are surrounded by raised beds that Chef Esteban Rosas uses to grow vegetables and herbs for the kitchen.

Chef Esteban Rosas

As Chef Esteban Rosas began his career in restaurants he idolized the skill, precision, and creativity of Chef Juan Mari Arzak and Chef Michael Roux. "That's how I wanted to cook then," says Rosas. "Never in a million years did I think that everything would come full-circle and I'd be cooking the food I grew up with." Now, at the helm of his own kitchen at Black Market, he is showcasing and elevating the food he's been eating his whole life. "I want to show our guests that Mexican cuisine can be so much more than tacos," he says. "I'm passing along my memories and experiences through my food."
