Angelo Brocato Ice Cream & Pastries

Angelo Brocato Ice Cream & Pastries

214 N. Carrollton Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70119

Angelo Brocato® Original Italian Ice Cream Parlor has been operated by the Brocato family in New Orleans, Louisiana for over one hundred years, but our history is steeped in the Sicilian traditions that could be found in the capital city of Palermo at the end of the 19th century. Along with his brother Giuseppi, our grandfather, Angelo, began his apprenticeship in one of the city’s most elegant ice cream parlors at 12 years old. Through shuffling ice and salt to master chefs and choosing the ripest and finest fruits for producing granita, he learned the special recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation. As the Mediterranean fall turned to winter, all production efforts turned to baking and candy-making. During these cold seasons, young Angelo began to master the production of assorted biscotti, torrone, frutta Marturana (marzipan) and many other confections. Most importantly, he learned the necessary techniques to manufacture the famed cannoli Siciliana; these techniques and recipes are still used today in our North Carrollton shop.

Their secret ingredient is love. (In the Restaurant World, Maybe the Rarest Ingredient of All.) People often ask about the secret to Drago’s success. It’s no secret. You see it at the restaurant every day. They all love what they do. It’s been that way since Drago and Klara Cvitanovich opened their first restaurant in 1969. They set out to offer delicious seafood and a good time to guests for a reasonable price. At that time, they couldn’t imagine how many guests that would become. Today it is still a family atmosphere. Their family has grown a lot since the early days—and the work family has too. It would be impossible to do what they do without a very hard-working and loyal staff. Drago’s now has more than 400 employees who help carry the legacy forward. And they all have a great time doing it!

A Po-boy (or po’ boy, po boy, or poor boy) is a traditional sandwich born in Louisiana and served on submarine style French bread stuffed with meat or seafood (or sometimes both!). Since its origins in the 1800s, the Po-boy has been one of New Orleans’ favorite bites to eat. Despite their popularity, many of the city’s famous Po-boy shops have begun to disappear. Mahony’s Po-Boys & Seafood is a tribute to those classic neighborhood Po-boy shops of New Orleans. Mahony’s combines fresh local ingredients and family recipes to re-create the standard Po-boy classics and also offer new, creative and exciting versions of New Orleans’ favorite sandwich.

We may be known for our award-winning Po-boys, but we also offer an overstuffed menu of comfort foods, delicious salads, perfectly fried or grilled seafood, hot plates, and more. Located on historic Magazine Street, we know how to appreciate food and life, from brunch to happy hour, and lunch to dinner. We hope to see you wandering into our shop that we call home, so we can pour you a cold drink and serve you up a sandwich or plate you are sure to remember.

The Original French Market Restaurant

The Original French Market Restaurant

1001 Decatur Street, New Orleans, LA 70116

Our story begins in the 1940s when Sicilian immigrants Anthony Marullo Sr. and his wife Annie opened their first restaurant in Grand Isle, Louisiana, serving fish, crabs, shrimp, and oysters caught daily in the Gulf. It was here that Anthony Marullo Jr. was born, and taught how to fish the waters that surrounded their barrier reef home. By 1965, the family was selling their fresh seafood in the French Market of New Orleans, and Anthony JR and his wife Barbara decided it was time to introduce Mamma Annie’s dishes to the Big Easy. Moving into the space at Decatur and St. Phillip that is as old as the French Quarter itself, their Creole-style seafood and dishes quickly gained popularity with locals and travelers alike and by 1975 had become a popular mainstay of New Orleans cuisine. Today, brothers, Jude & Anthony Marullo III continue the tradition of serving millions of people from around the world the same from scratch recipes that Annie and Anthony Sr. created almost 80 years ago.
