Executive Chef Gary Strehl
Gary Strehl joined the Loews L’Enfant Plaza Hotel team as Executive Chef in November, 2000. He has 25 years of culinary experience, and acquired many innovative approaches to cuisine at posts around the world. He was invited to cook at the James Beard House in the Best Hotel Chefs of America Series in 1996; contributed to The New Cuisine of Hawaii Cookbook; and has been featured in several food publications including Bon Appetit, Food Arts and Wine Spectator.
Strehl graduated with honors from the Culinary Institute of America, and apprenticed at Tavern on the Green and Maxwell’s Plum in New York City. He served as sous chef at Jackson Lake Lodge in Jackson Hole, Wyoming; executive sous chef at Rock Resorts Kapalua Bay Hotel in Maui; and received additional training at the Regent hotels in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Manila and Kuala Lumpur, as well as at the Prince Hotels in Japan. He was posted as executive chef at the Maui Prince Hotel in Hawaii for three years, and then served as executive chef at the Hawaii Prince Hotel in Honolulu for 10 years, where he oversaw the opening of the four-diamond property’s restaurants. He was chef/partner at The Park Café in Telluride, Colorado before joining Loews L’Enfant Plaza Hotel.
During his tenure at the hotel, Strehl has transformed the restaurant, room service and bar operations, as well as offerings for banquets, weddings, meetings and conferences. He initiated the Chef’s Studio program of culinary experiences, and maintains an herb garden on the rooftop pool terrace complete with a fountain for the freshest flavors in his cuisine.
