Chef Christine Brown
Chef Christine Brown is a 1991 graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Before entering culinary school, Chef Christine gained extensive hands - on experience at The Grand House in San Pedro where she worked for five years, rising rapidly from line cook to sous chef to pastry chef.
Chef Christine did her internship at the now defunct CITY restaurant, run by the 'Too Hot Tamales," Susan Feniger and MarySue Milliken. Chef Christine worked at Campanile before joining the Depot Restaurant in October 1991, which she helped open with executive chef/ owner Michael Shafer.
Chef Christine was the executive chef at both Fino and Descanso before being asked to open Restaurant Christine. She lovingly transformed the former space eight years ago into a cozy, two level romantic bistro resplendent in warm Tuscan reds, blues and greens, which can be seen on the walls as well as incorporated into the wood and tile. The menu reflects Chef Christine's style, offering cuisine created with Mediterranean and Pacific Rim influences backed by a classical knowledge of French technique. In 2001, a private dining room called 'The Room Next Door" was built. Adjacent to Restaurant Christine, this beautiful area seats up to 40 guests. Chef Christine offers cooking classes at the restaurant, does offsite catering, features wine dinners, consults for new restaurant ventures & takes groups on cooking tours to Europe.
Chef Christine has been recognized by Los Angeles Magazine as one of the top female chefs in Los Angeles. She was also voted 'Chef of the Year" for 2001–2002 by the Southern California Restaurant Writers' Association. Restaurant Christine was voted the top rated restaurant in the South Bay as reflected by the 2000, 2002 and 2004 Zagat Survey Restaurant Guides.
