Af ter emigrating to America in 1903 from Odessa, Russia, Louis Shapiro opened a small grocery store just south of downtown Indianapolis with his wife Rebecca and their eight children. Before long, many of Rebecca’s dinner recipes were being served to a hungry public. Business boomed through several expansions of the kitchen and the addition of a bakery.
