| Ingredients For Cake |
1 C Sugar
5 Large Eggs, separated
1/3 C Milk
1/2 t Vanilla Extract
1 C Flour
1 1/2 t Baking Powder
1/2 t Cream of Tartar
Ingredients For Milk Syrup:
1 C Sugar
1/2 t Cream of Tartar
4 Egg Whites |

| Method |
| Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Butter 13 x 9 baking dish, we use a round dish.
Beat 3/4 cup of the sugar and the egg yolks until light and fluffy and fold in milk, vanilla, flour and baking power.
Beat the egg whites and add the cream of tartar.
Gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup sugar and beat.
Gently fold the whites into the yolk mixture.
Pour batter into buttered dish.
Bake cake 25 minutes.
Unmold the cake onto a large, deep platter.
Let cool and pierce the cake all over with a fork.
Prepare the milk syrup.
Combine the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, cream and vanilla.
Mix well and pour the syrup over the cake.
Prepare the meringue.
Place 4 egg whites in mixing bowl with cream of tartar.
Whip at high speed gradually adding half of the sugar.
Whip for 2 minutes and add remaining sugar and continue whipping for another minute until meringue is shinny and has soft peaks.
Pipe onto the cake with a pastry bag or spread on with spatula.
Garnish with fresh fruit in season. |
